“Shram” in Sanskrit means to exert or to make an effort. So the basic tenet of the shraman philosophy is not to be dependent on any other external entity to attain peace & happiness (sukha) but to exert oneself independently towards the path of the moksha (liberation from the cycle of birth and death, ultimately attaining eternal happiness).
